About Us
School Social Work is the department in the school system that deals with the social and family problems students’ face that interfere with their academic performance. School social workers serve as liaison between the school, family, student, and community.
Any student attending a Mitchell County school is eligible for social work services. Student issues include attendance, child abuse, child neglect, health, family crisis, economic, academic, school adjustments, personal issues, and behavior issues. A referral is made to the school social worker by submitting to the worker a written referral stating the nature of the concern. Referral forms can be obtained from the guidance department in each school.
