University of Georgia Cooperative Extension in Southwest Georgia has been involved in developing and providing programming for the school nutrition program employees in Mitchell and surrounding counties for many years. Family and Consumer Sciences Agent in Mitchell and Baker County, Sylvia Davis, partnered with Mitchell Co. School Nutrition Director, Julie Tucker, and hosted a workshop on July 20, 2017 to 56 food service employees from Mitchell, Miller, Grady and Calhoun Counties. FACS agent, Suzanne Williams from Dougherty County presented “Plant to Plate, Clean, Separate, Cook and Chill” and Roxie Price, FACS agent in Tift County presented “Itching for Information, Allergy Alert”. From the two programs participants learned the different types of food allergies that children may have and what to do if an allergic reaction occurs. They also learned how to keep foods safe when preparing foods in and out of the school kitchen.
